Meet our little Eli Promise

Happy Tuesday everyone, and yes it’s a happy one for me because I get to introduce to you our newborn son, Eli Promise… After 28 hours of labour (I know… crazy right?), Eli was born weighing 7lbs 15oz. He’s only 8 days old and proving to be already such a cool kid! As our friend Femi wrote on my facebook wall: “the globe’s in need of a makeover. it needs an Eli. it certainly needs a Promise. can share your excitement, as Eli arrives.” And he’s finally here…

Justin and I want to give a big shout out to the nurses and doctors at the Guelph Genereal Hospital. They were so amazing during our stay there. We also want to thank so many of you for your lovely comments and for loving Eli already…

NO, unfortunately our baby Eli has not come out to meet his makers. But the due date is Saturday… so I’m still keeping the hope alive. And for all of you “friends” out there trying to sabotage my due date with hopes for a later birth… stop it!

What I DID want to share with you today is a photo I took of my new twitter page design. This may or may not be a glance into our new branding!!

Justin & his watermelon…

Ohhhhh Justin. He’s pretty much a great, compassionate, and passionate guy all-around. But there’s something you need to know about him. He has a dark side when it comes to his favorite foods. He does NOT like to share. Most people would think that I’d be the non-sharer-of-foods but it’s actually untrue, Justin is the culprit. Over the years, I’ve learned a few things:

1. to divide up “treats” that we buy while grocery shopping or my mouth will never see its existence. (2 for you, 2 for me… I KNOW, it’s pathetic!)

2. if he’s given chocolates or cookies at work for “the two of us”… I probably won’t find out about it until that kind person asks me “how’d you like my cookies?”. Then I usually have to lie to cover up his cookie-eating-eagerness. (you’ll be glad to know that his coworkers now require him to bring some home for me… it’s a big joke!)

3. don’t mess around with HIS watermelon. If there’s any fruit that he loves more than grapes, it’s watermelon. We bought one the other day and he ate at least 3 quarters of it. Last night I told him that I wanted to eat the last bit so this morning before leaving for work, he kindly reminded me “Mel I hope you will eat that watermelon today…” NO PRESSURE!!!!! ha!

In his defense… I don’t always share. I like to, most of the time, but when it comes to my “chocolate eruption” or “chocolate explosion” cake obsession, I absolutely hate sharing! And for your information you can find this deliciousness at William’s or Boston Pizza

IN OTHER NEWS, our “little” watermelon is still growing, even at 39 weeks! Yikes… how big is this boy gonna be?! Here’s a photo of me taken by Justin a few weeks ago!

If you’ve been wondering where all the photos are, well… I’ve been taking a break until our boy is born. Then you can expect to see a lot more of him until I start my weddings in July Also, we’ve been busy with our new branding… SOON our new BLOGSITE will be up and running. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!

Let me introduce you to baby Ravyn Leigh born to our lovely couple Melynda & Calvin. I was so excited when Melynda wrote me to tell me “I successfully delivered Ravyn Leigh” on May 11th! They wanted to take some photos of her as soon as they could, since newborns change SO quickly!

Elora Gorge Engagement Photography | Jenna & Rich

I love hearing couples’ unique love stories… and Jenna & Rich’s story is one that I love! They spent many years seeing each other at conferences and conventions, not knowing that one day *BAM* they would see the “light” and fall in love. Now, they’re engaged and will be married in September (YAY!) Unlike, mine and Justin’s story… sometime it just takes awhile for us to come around, but when we do, it’s such a beautiful thing (I’ll have to share our story sometime).

Last weekend we drove to the Elora Gorge and snapped a few photos of the two of them. The Gorge is such a beautiful place to take photos… And it was even more delightful to work with a ‘really bright-minutes-before-a-thunderstorm’ sky! But there was also lots of pressure to get all the shots we wanted before the big rain… luckily we did! Enjoy!

Rich probably made us laugh the entire time and Jenna’s smile was outstanding… There’s no doubt that we’re going to have a blast photographing you guys in a few short months!!! Looking forward to it!

Happy Sunday everyone I usually never take the time to blog on the weekends… but as I started looking ahead at this week, I realized I won’t be able to share some beautiful photos of a lovely couple Justin and I had the chance of meeting on Thursday! And that’s just not cool. So here it is, some beautiful maternity photos of a couple who are so down-to-earth and easy to be with! We loved our time with them. Not only did we take some great shots, but since Melynda’s about 7 weeks ahead of me (and its their first baby too), they had some really good tips to throw our way… THANKS!

Here’s a shout out to Melynda who may or may not be reading this (considering she’s due any second! How exciting!)… but if you are, I hope that your upcoming birth goes fabulously! I’ll be thinking about you!

Today I had the chance of visiting Alicia and her new baby girl… Aralyn Rayne (another great baby name). This little sweetheart is only 1 week and 4 days old! She was awake the whole time while I was in their home, and we managed to get some great shots of her and Ellie. When photographing babies, there’s always the hope to get some snuggly sleepy photos, but what I’ve learned from my experience with little ones is that you can only work by their schedule! So that’s exactly what we did… and thanks to Ellie, her big sister, for being such a great help

I think Ellie is going to be the best big sister ever! She’s been waiting for this day as long as mom and dad!

am I ready?

The days are counting down quickly to the arrival of our little Eli, which will turn our family of 2 into a family of 3. I have to admit, I have complete mixed emotions about this ‘event’ on a daily basis. I have moments of freaking out “EVERYTHING’s GOING TO CHANGE” to “I CAN’T WAIT to meet him”. Here’s a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately: How can I better prepare myself (emotionally/mentally) for this baby? I know everyone tells me “you’ll never feel ready”… but I’m wondering if there are any unique ways that helped some of you mother’s out there prepare yourselves for your first baby. I’d love to hear your stories!

On another note… Last Saturday, Chris & Christine had their baby girl Leah Joy Vienna (isn’t that a great name?!) and I can tell that even since meeting her something inside of me got really excited for Eli.
